THE STORY
Sylvia is a smart, playful, sophisticated, and occasionally gritty comedy about relationships, nature, and growing older.  It tells the entertaining story of an exuberant, lovable dog who changes the lives of a middle-aged couple.  Empty nesters Greg and Kate have moved back to Manhattan after twenty-two years in the suburbs.  As Kate tells Greg: "The dog phase of my life is definitely over."  But life has a way of giving you what you think you don't want.  Greg finds Sylvia, a street-smart lab/poodle mix, and brings her home.  She promptly becomes a bone of contention between Greg and Kate, testing their marriage to hilarious and touching effect.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Greg - a middle-aged financial trader who finds a stray dog and falls in love.  He loves his wife, but hates his job and is going through some sort of mid life crisis.  He thinks Sylvia is the answer to all of his problems.

Kate - a middle-aged school teacher whose career is on the upswing after raising her kids and moving to Manhattan.  She enjoys their freedom as empty-nesters, and resents the presence of Sylvia in their lives.

Sylvia - A street-smart, sexy Labradoodle who finds the master of her dreams.  She is energetic, a little naughty, and full of wonderment.  She pushes the boundaries with Kate whenever possible.  (Can be any age - played by a woman.)

Three other characters show up - Tom, a philosophical dog-lover in the park; Phyllis, an old Vassar classmate of Kate's; and Leslie, a marriage counselor whose therapy is based on his/her being utterly androgynous.  These characters are all played by the same actor.

We look forward to seeing you at auditions!
